THE GREAT ONES CHECK-IN | People of Canada Portrait project studio visit

Two Canadians enter a room, with hair that forms endless roads of curves and detours much like their combined life experiences. Everything about these two says wanderlust.

Through stories of Montreal Canadiens shrines, Leafs versus Habs fans hockey played on Canadian navy ships in the middle of the ocean, and production office accounts of the film industry. From harvesting potatoes in Manitoba to tales of Westcoast lighthouses, these two have stories to share and I was inspired.

Initially my thought was to paint a Canadian homage to the famous Grant Wood portrait, American Gothic, and these two Canadians were the right subjects for this portrait. When I finished the piece another idea grew from from the seeds planted, and this portrait became the inaugural piece for the People Of Canada Portrait Project. This first portrait was exhibited at the Canada 55+ Games exhibit, Art: Objet de Sport at Gallery @501 in Strathcona County, Alberta. Next stop...stay tuned.
